A vial recently discovered in Russia's western territory might be
filled with the lethal nerve agent sarin, United Press International
reported on Monday .
The container, imprinted with the word "sarin," was handed over last week by area residents to a used metal purchaser in the Bryansk region, according to RIA Novosti.
"The item has been seized by police, the situation is under control," a spokesman for the regional security authority said.
The official would not state where the vial was initially found.
The Bryansk region hosts a chemical demilitarization facility not far from Pochep that is to eliminate 7,498 metric tons of nerve agents held in aerial chemical munitions (United Press International, April 9).
