British scientific and technological specialists on Wednesday detailed
to representatives from the four other nuclear powers results from a
systematic examination of means for confirming the disassembly of
nuclear armaments, the British Embassy in Berlin announced .
Specialists with the five formal nuclear weapons states also shared their takes on the U.K.-Norway Initiative, a joint effort launched in 2007 by the United Kingdom's Defense Ministry, the British Atomic Weapons Establishment and a number of research facilities in Norway. The discussion took place at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the British capital.
“I am delighted to be welcoming our P-5 partners to London to share the U.K.’s experience from our research with Norway on the challenges associated with nuclear disarmament verification,” British Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt said.
Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey added: “The U.K.-Norway Initiative has demonstrated that both nuclear-weapon states and non-nuclear weapon states can make an active contribution to disarmament through this research, while meeting their nonproliferation obligations” (British Embassy in Berlin release, April 4).
